Tips
Does my horse even need supplements?
A question we are asked time and again – and in most cases, the answer is: yes.
Today's domestic horses no longer have the opportunity to purposefully search for what they need on daily foraging treks of 18 to 30 kilometers. At the same time, the biodiversity of meadows – and thus of basic feed – is steadily decreasing. As a result, valuable herbs and vital nutrients are often inadequately absorbed if the diet is not supplemented appropriately.
An unbalanced supply of nutrients can manifest itself in horses on many levels. So-called "diseases of civilization" and a weakened immune system are becoming increasingly common and can manifest themselves, among other things, in:
- Weight problems and EMS (Equine Metabolic Syndrome)
- Cushing's and hormonal disorders
- Skin abnormalities and itching up to sweet itch
- Problems with shedding
- Mud fever, sarcoids, melanomas
- Thrush, poor hoof growth, poor horn quality
- Allergies
- Susceptibility to parasites such as worms, mites, lice, ticks
- Susceptibility to infections, coughing, phlegmon
- Decreased performance and rideability
- Lack of motivation and vitality
- Recurrent tension and blockages
- Slow muscle development
- Long regeneration times
- Pronounced nervousness, timidity, inner tension
- Phlegm or aggression
This list could be continued. The connection between a balanced, varied diet and the holistic health and performance of the horse is clearly demonstrated again and again in daily practice.
