Key mineral for metabolism
Magnesium is one of the most important macrominerals for your horse. It is involved in numerous metabolic processes and organizes many other vital substances – a truly key function for a smoothly running metabolism.
Should you really overdose – excess magnesium is easily excreted by the horse. Nevertheless, the rule is: introduce it slowly. Magnesium deficiency is more common than you might think, and the body needs time to adjust.

Can I feed magnesium citrate at the same time as the metabolism booster?
Can I feed magnesium citrate at the same time as the metabolism booster?
Yes, this is possible — especially for horses with magnesium deficiency or increased magnesium requirements (heavy sweating, sport horses, long transports). If the booster is fed at full dosage, reduce the magnesium intake by approximately 30% compared to the normal dose.
My horse won't eat magnesium – what can I do?
My horse won't eat magnesium – what can I do?
Magnesium has a very intense taste without fillers. Start with a small dose (¼ to ½ teaspoon) and slowly accustom the horse to the taste. Always add a sip of water so that your horse does not have to eat the powder "dry". In the beginning, you can also sweeten it with some grated apple, carrot, applesauce, or honey.
Can I overdose on magnesium?
Can I overdose on magnesium?
Theoretically yes, but excess magnesium is excreted easily through the feces. For horses with an existing magnesium deficiency, introduce it slowly – in rare cases, too high an initial dose can lead to diarrhea.
Why is magnesium citrate better?
Why is magnesium citrate better?
Magnesium citrate is an organic compound with particularly high bioavailability — your horse can absorb and utilize it better than other forms of magnesium. Compared to magnesium oxide, magnesium citrate is absorbed more efficiently and less likely to cause digestive problems. Excess magnesium is easily excreted by the kidneys — overdoses are unlikely with proper use.
Our customers regularly report improved muscle relaxation, increased willingness to perform, and greater calmness in nervous or stressed horses.
Can I feed magnesium long-term?
Can I feed magnesium long-term?
Yes. Magnesium citrate can be fed permanently or as a course of treatment, depending on your horse's needs – for nervous horses or those with a permanent need, it can be fed permanently. Excess magnesium is excreted by the body.
Does a magnesium course make sense for older horses too?
Does a magnesium course make sense for older horses too?
Yes. Magnesium is often very suitable for older horses — it's best to try it as a course of treatment first and observe how your horse reacts. If you have any concerns, please consult your veterinarian or a local feed consultant.
Can I feed magnesium with alfalfa cobs?
Can I feed magnesium with alfalfa cobs?
Yes, that works. Only zinc uptake is inhibited by alfalfa – this affects the metabolism booster and naturally also the hemp mix PLUS, but not pure magnesium. Please note, however: Alfalfa cobs contain significantly more protein than hay cobs.
